Two-Factor Authentication
Add an authenticator app as a second step when you sign in to FONE.
Where It Lives
Click the three small circles beside the FONE title at the top of the app to open Settings. Two-Factor Authentication is the second section, below Appearance.
It Is Yours, Not the Account’s
Two-factor is set up per person, on your own sign-in. You do not need to be the account owner to turn it on, and turning it on does not change anything for anyone else on the account.
Setting It Up
Press Set up authenticator. A QR code appears — scan it with an authenticator app, then type the six-digit code the app shows to confirm. If you cannot scan, the same secret is shown as text you can type in by hand.
Your Backup Codes
You are then given a set of backup codes. Save them somewhere safe: each one works once, they are for when you do not have your authenticator to hand, and they are not shown again afterwards. You have to confirm you have saved them before finishing.
Signing In Afterwards
Sign-in works as before — your email, then the code we email you — with one extra step where you enter the six-digit code from your authenticator app. If you do not have it, there is an option to use a backup code instead.
Managing It Later
The same Settings section shows that two-factor is on and how many backup codes you have left, and lets you regenerate the codes or turn it off. Both of those ask for a current code from your authenticator first, so someone at an unlocked screen cannot quietly remove it.
