Live Transfer via WhatsApp
Transfer a WhatsApp conversation to another team member so they can continue the chat directly.
Overview
When you take over a WhatsApp conversation and need to hand it off to a colleague, the /transfer command reassigns the entire conversation to the other person. Unlike chat widget transfers that send a link, WhatsApp transfers move the full conversation history so the new person picks up right where you left off.
How to Transfer
While chatting in a taken-over WhatsApp conversation, type /transfer followed by the person's name. For example: /transfer David. The conversation will be moved to David's agent and appear in his FONE app under WhatsApp Chats.
What the Customer Sees
The customer receives a WhatsApp message: "You're now connected with David Edward, Developer. They'll be with you shortly." The conversation continues in the same WhatsApp thread — no new links or numbers needed.
What the New Owner Sees
The transferred conversation appears in the new person's FONE app under WhatsApp Chats with the full message history. They also receive a push notification alerting them to the transfer. They can take over the conversation and start chatting immediately.
How It Differs from Chat Widget Transfer
Chat widget transfers send the customer a link to a new chat. WhatsApp and Messenger transfers reassign the actual conversation — the customer stays in the same thread and the new team member gets the full history. This works because WhatsApp conversations are tied to a phone number, not a webpage.
Supported Channels
The /transfer command works on all messaging channels: Chat Widget (sends a link), WhatsApp (reassigns conversation), Facebook Messenger (reassigns conversation), and Instagram DMs (reassigns conversation).
